R.S.V.P today and join “The Forge” Faction…
Picture the Impossible is a community based game developed jointly by the RIT Lab for Social Computing and the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. It is about engaging members of our community in the history of innovation and exploration of the City of Rochester. The game will run over a seven-week period kicking off tomorrow, September 12 at the at the Memorial Art Gallery’s annual Clothesline Festival. Each week activities will focus on a different theme related to the history and culture of Rochester, including food, imaging, social justice, music, arts and crafts, and “Rochester firsts.” The game wraps up on October 31 with a gala costume party held at RIT’s beautiful new Student Innovation Center on Halloween that 300 players will win invitations to attend.
Players will be GIVING back to the community, EXPLORING Rochester through activities that require them to visit locations through the city, and DISCOVERING things they don’t know about the unique history of the Rochester area.
For each of the seven weeks of the game, the following activities will be available:
- Web Games: Monday-Friday casual Flash-based games will be updated with new content related to that week’s theme. There will be five total games, rotating through the five days of the week, such as a slider image puzzle, and image matching activities.
- Local Games: Each week at least one challenge will involve players going to specific locations throughout the city and gathering clues and/or codes. Other activities will involve participating in local events, festivals, and concerts.
- Newspaper Games: Twice a week the newspaper will publish a puzzle or game, some of which will involve tangible aspects of the paper itself.
But what we love most about the game is that we’ve tied it directly to three local charities, each of which will be affiliated with a specific Faction in the game. Each week, Factions will compete to earn the largest charitable donation. Be sure to choose “The Forge” Faction as the beneficiary is… Foodlink.
Be sure to check out the “Picture the Impossible” Facebook page for additional updates.
We hope you’ll join us this fall as we all work together to Picture the Impossible!
