Tying your shoes is a bit tricky but being a can isn’t as bad as it sounds – you are protected from the harsh weather conditions of Upstate New York in February and as a Wegmans product, are well respected!

As Cool Can, you confront a stereotype that you are only a can of salty, unhealthy food.  It’s difficult to be misunderstood.  Cool Can works tirelessly to educate the public about canned food and nutrition products that are available for emergency food assistance!  Foodlink’s Nutrition Department assists Cool Can to demonstrate cooking techniques, explain healthy options at the grocery store and how to live healthy lives in general.

Cool Can is no hypocrite – he is active for at least one hour every day!  Eating right and staying active has helped this can to stay young and energetic for over 30 years!  He also strives to eliminate any unnecessary waste just like Foodlink!  He recycles, he uses Ethanol for his flex-fuel van, and he volunteers at Freshwise Farms to help grow local nutritious foods for the community.

What can we learn from Cool Can?

1.       Velcro shoes would have been a better choice.
2.       Being green goes beyond just a can-tone.
3.       Nutritious foods can help keep everyone healthy and happy.
4.       Wegmans is a great place to purchase canned goods.
5.       Embracing the mission of Foodlink is COOL!

Twestival 4 Foodlink

Twitterers were tweeting all weekend long about the success of the 2nd Rochester Twestival held last Thursday.  This time around, supporters of ‘social media 4 social change’ came out to benefit a local charity: Foodlink!  The evening was a HUGE success, raising over $2,600 to help end local hunger. Boulder Coffee Company @ Brooks Landing was packed with Twitter fans, social networkers, and community members who wanted to have some fun and support a great cause.  Local band Sinzibukwud played the night away (they even got Cool Can dancing!), followed by burgeoning singer/songwriter Sadie Ava.  Freshwise Catering served up some delicious appetizers, and Foodlink employees got everyone excited about the amazing raffle prizes (donated by our sponsors!).

Foodlink is pleased to be the first local charity to host a Twestival and hopes the event helped to raise awareness of the hunger that exists in our own region.  We are proud to promote Twitter and other social media venues as a powerful tool in our work to end hunger, promote nutritional wellness and bring our community together.

On Wednesday, March 4th,  Cool Can and Foodlink employees attended Fleet Feet’s SnowCheap Race – the 6th in a series of fun-filled winter trail races held at Cobbs Hill Park.   Fleet Feet is owned by David (“Boots”) and Ellen Boutillier who, along with their awesome staff, are committed to helping the Rochester community get FIT.  Foodlink staff members Dave Ward, Bria Anderson and Heather Knauf served up some hearty homemade chili, cornbread muffins and fresh fruit — all prepared at our Freshwise Kitchen.  Cool Can was there to cheer on the runners and offer his support!
